Softron is a long time partner of VEDIA."
VEDIA is a proximity media located in Dison, near Liège, in Belgium. We are one of the twelve local media that form the RMDP - Réseau des Médias de Proximité (Network of Proximity Media) in Wallonia, the French part of Belgium.
Softron is a long time partner of VEDIA (called Télévesdre prior to 2018). Near the end of 90’s they developed a tool for our needs, which was called TV Scheduler. It operated as a headless VTR player and a video interface on a Mac, when we were not yet broadcasting linearly. We had three TV tower operator sites to feed with a new tape every Friday, every one with the same hardware.
TV Scheduler started the tape at the beginning of the hour. At the end of the tape, a slideshow of city information was aired, through the Mac video interface. The tape was rewinded to beginning, waiting for the next hour. And voila!
Those days, we’re still using Softron Mac solutions. Like MovieRecorder to record our studio shows and OnTheAir Video in our 24/7 play out. We were facing challenges during last years. One was the need to provide subtitles to our viewers, in OP47 protocol. Another one was the interfacing our new MAM tool, Basique (which by the way, is totally developed internally, in the RMDP). Basique creates .xpls playlist files for OnTheAir Video. On the reverse side, Basique ingests OnTheAir Video as-run log files, to provide a clear, and easy to create, report to the Belgian CSA (Belgian Media regulation authority).
Softron has provided easy-to-deploy and easy-to-use software. It’s clear user interface is the key point for me.
